About Penn State Altoona
Founded in 1939, Penn State Altoona is the tenth campus to be founded in the Penn State commonwealth system, and represents one of only five full-fledged four-year universities in the Pennsylvania State University Commonwealth campus system. The system is based on a central University Park campus with around 40% of its undergraduates attending 19 additional campuses throughout the state of Pennsylvania. This allows students the freedom and convenience of receiving a top-notch education just a short distance from home.
In addition to its robust academic programs, Penn State Altoona hosts overflow football games from the central Penn State University campus, as well as a variety of featured events year-round, including occasional retreats, music ensembles, poetry readings, academic symposiums and other seasonal sporting events. Both virtual and on-campus tours of Penn State Altoona are made available through their website.
